Themes & Activities
For each facility, Kindergarden has developed theme folders packed with inspiring activities aimed at sensory motor development. Each month is dedicated to a certain theme. Apart from recurring themes throughout the year, such as seasons and holidays, a range of other imaginative and sensory stimulating themes are introduced to the children. A good example of this are the tales from the Arabian Nights with bright colours, oil lamps, exotic palaces and flying carpets. This theme allows the children to explore an array of sensory activities. The different kinds of fabrics, such as soft silks and coarse wool, stimulate the touch sense. The eastern music and rattling gold bracelets and shawls with bells stimulate their sense of hearing. To stimulate their sense of smell, sweet-smelling incense is burned. The older children are also encouraged to sample Arab cuisine (taste). Other activities include theme-related arts and crafts projects and stories. Sometimes an expert is invited to take part. A police officer, a chef, an artist, a carpenter or a clown, for example, can add substance to a theme and help bring it alive.
In addition to thematic activities, Kindergarden offers children both structured and free choice activities. These activities vary depending on the child’s age and stage of development and may include anything from reading books, singing, morning exercises to free play time inside or outside in the garden. Outside play time is part of Kindergarden’s regular daily schedule (weather permitting) whereby free play is alternated with adult-led activities. The children have the possibility to maintain a kitchen garden to grow and harvest crops. The garden is also an ideal location for all sorts of games and activities. Furthermore, the group leaders take the children outside in a cart to enjoy the afternoon and regular outings are organised.
Kindergarden knows how important a child’s birthday is. To turn this day into a special event, we make sure the room is decorated, make a party hat and have a present for the birthday child. A celebration would, of course, not be complete without a treat to share with the children. We do ask that parents only bring healthy snacks.
