Looking for a child- and family-friendly neighborhood surrounded by water and with easy access to the A10 highway? Look no further than Steigereiland, the first of the IJburg islands! Our daycare center has an open and welcoming feel, with floor-to-ceiling windows and high ceilings creating a lovely atmosphere and beckoning you to come in, spend time with us, and explore the light, airy, and spacious rooms.

Then there’s the “black-and-white corner” in our baby section, which we set up especially for our youngest preschoolers and where they can roam around freely and discover this unique early-childhood environment. Did you know bold black-and-white images are the first thing your baby can distinguish? And that mirrors help children become aware of their own bodies and personalities?

We provide two spacious bedrooms for each group – babies, and younger and older toddlers. Our large, split-level yard with its stunning and majestic tree and shading covers is perfect for all kinds of play activities. We have a separate, restricted section for our infants, and finally there’s our beloved vegetable garden, where we sow and care for crops and enjoy the bountiful harvest together.

Baby garden

Babies can enjoy the fresh air in complete safety in their own sheltered baby garden area. And the older children can play hide-and-seek to their heart’s content in the willow tunnel or in the sandpit, or race around on small bicycles or carts.
Discovery garden

Our large green garden really invites children to start discovering and playing. The playhouses, our bamboo forest or the sand and water table all ensure that your child is invited to discover and play.
Older toddlers

Our older toddler group focuses on each toddler’s specific developmental needs. We aim to promote self-reliance and challenge them to do as much for themselves as possible, as that will be really useful when they start school!
Black and white corner

We challenge your child to engage with and explore their environment, including in our black-and-white corner. We designed this especially for our youngest babies, because they can see the contrast between these two shades the most during the first few months of life.

There’s a good reason we take all our three children to Kindergarden Steigereiland four days a week. We had a great feeling about it from the very first day with our first child. I can leave them there every day with complete peace of mind, follow the fun activities they’re doing via messages and photos in the app and, when we collect them, we get a really nice summary and the kids are always happy and excited. The hot and freshly-prepared meals, the variety of activities and the sound childcare methodologies behind these are other great plus points.

When do I need to register for childcare?

To increase the chances of securing a spot, we recommend enrolling your child as soon as possible at our childcare. We take your preferences into account during our planning and strive to fulfill your wishes to the best of our ability.

How likely is it that I will be given a place?

That depends on various factors including preferred days, how many days you need, and how flexible you are. For example, the likelihood of a placement becoming available for one day is greater than three or four days becoming available in one go. The more flexible you are as a parent, the greater the likelihood that we will be able to offer you a place.

When will I hear whether there is a place?

If you’re seeking a place quickly, we’d be happy to look at the options available in our schedule. At the busier locations, we often work approximately four months ahead, so it can take some time before you hear from us. If there’s a waiting list, we rely on cancellations/schedule changes for new places to become available.

Are you pregnant and looking for a place in the longer term? We have horizontal groups at Kindergarden and this affects how far ahead we can plan. Horizontal means that children move on to the next group at a certain time. As we take a child’s development and age and the days that a child spends at the daycare center into account, we plan four to six months ahead, depending on how busy the center is. A schedule can also change a lot. Factors that influence this include registration of siblings (they are given priority), schedule changes for children who already have a placement (switching days or increasing the number of days), and cancellations.

Our childcare staff can focus entirely on the children, because they receive optimal support from colleagues at the location. For instance, the cleaning staff makes sure everything is clean and tidy and prepares a fresh, hot lunch for everyone every day. The full-time location manager is responsible for supervising staff, administration, and for answering practical questions from parents. Working together like this ensures that we have all the time we need to care for, guide, and help your child develop.

This program ensures that, as parent, you know which development points we will be focusing on.
