Going Outside Every Day at After-School Care

Being outdoors is healthy and fun. Fresh air, space to run, discovering the world together – it’s something we all need. Outside, children learn and play in a different way than indoors. That’s why at Kindergarden we go outside every single day. It’s good for their health, sparks creativity, and also helps develop social skills.

Burning Off Energy

After sitting in school all day, many children still have energy to spare. Playing outside helps them release it. At our after-school care, children can run and play to their heart’s content. Outdoors, they feel free and independent. They learn to play together and make choices. Being outside also helps them get to know themselves better.

Playing and Sports Together

At many of our locations, we have a childcare professional specialized in sports. They involve the children in fun, active activities. There’s also plenty of room for free play. Children often come up with the best ideas themselves and make their own rules. We give them the freedom to explore those ideas.

Playing outside is also learning. Children learn to cooperate, wait their turn, explore boundaries, and use their imagination. Sometimes one child wants A and another wants B. Then we teach them – with guidance from our childcare professionals – how to find a solution together.

What Kind of Outdoor Activities Are There?

Rain or shine, we go outside. Of course, we adapt activities to the weather. In summer, we apply sunscreen and play in the shade. In autumn and winter, we bundle up in warm coats. We also consider your child’s age and interests. Everyone gets the space to follow their own needs.

Activities at our after-school care include:

  • Sports like soccer, hockey, or tag
  • Building forts and playing imaginative games
  • Free play with friends
  • Cycling or scootering
  • Playing in the sandbox
  • Drawing in the outdoor corner
  • Quiet reading or building with LEGO or Kapla

Many of our locations have an outdoor area. If not, we love to go out – for example, to a nearby playground or park.

A Daily Challenge in the Fresh Air

Outside, children can try all sorts of things. It sparks their imagination. How do you make sand pies that actually stay together? Which insects can you find outside? How many chestnuts can you collect? All of this encourages creativity.

How exciting is it to push boundaries and use problem-solving skills when something doesn’t work the first time? That’s why at Kindergarden we also embrace ‘risky’ play. With proper guidance, your child learns to take the next step outdoors.
